Since = starting point; for = duration.

Usage — Common choices, confusions and preposition errors.

Rules

1. for + duration: for two years, for an hour, for ages. 2. since + starting point: since 2010, since Monday, since morning. 3. Both are used with perfect tenses: I have lived here for five years / since 2015. 4. In "It's been..." constructions: It has been raining since 9 o'clock. 5. "Since" can introduce a clause: since I moved here.

Explanation

Choose by what follows: a length of time → for; a point in time → since. "I have known him for ten years" vs "since 2015".

हिंदी में

For के साथ अवधि (two years) और since के साथ शुरुआती बिंदु (2015, Monday) आता है। Perfect tenses के साथ प्रयोग होता है।
