Rules

1. Active ↔ Passive: The cat chased the rat ↔ The rat was chased by the cat. 2. Direct ↔ Indirect speech. 3. Affirmative ↔ Negative: He is honest ↔ He is not dishonest. 4. Exclamatory ↔ Assertive: What a pity! ↔ It is a great pity. 5. Too...to ↔ so...that: He is too weak to walk ↔ He is so weak that he cannot walk. 6. Degree change: Ravi is the tallest boy ↔ No other boy is as tall as Ravi.

Explanation

Transformation keeps meaning identical while changing structure. Learn the paired patterns; watch for verb tense changes in passive and reported speech.

Practice Questions

Q1. Transform: "As soon as the bell rang, the students left." → "No sooner ___ the bell rang than the students left."
