Nouns name people, places, things and ideas.
Foundation — The building blocks of English grammar.
1. Common nouns: city, boy, river (general). 2. Proper nouns: Delhi, Rohan (specific, capitalised). 3. Abstract nouns: happiness, truth (ideas/qualities). 4. Collective nouns: team, family, crowd. 5. Countable nouns can be counted (one book, two books); uncountable nouns cannot (water, milk).
A noun is the most basic building block of a sentence. Choosing the correct noun form (singular/plural, countable/uncountable) is a common exam area.
