Common Errors intermediate medium

Forms carried over from Hindi that sound wrong in standard English.

Common Errors — Frequent mistakes Indian learners make.

Rules

1. "Discuss about" → discuss; "return back" → return; "repeat again" → repeat. 2. "What is your good name?" → What is your name? 3. "Since two days" → for two days. 4. "Myself Rohan" → I am Rohan. 5. "Do one thing" → do this / listen. 6. "Prepone" → bring forward (Indian English; use "bring forward" internationally).

Explanation

Indian English has unique forms from direct Hindi translation. For international writing, replace them with standard forms. Some (prepone, out of station) are accepted in Indian English but confusing abroad.

हिंदी में

Q1. Find the error: "The meeting got postponed."

Answer: got

💡 Prefer 'was postponed' in formal English; 'got' is informal.

Q2. Find the error: "I have a doubt about this."

Answer: a doubt

💡 Standard English: 'I have a question/doubt' is acceptable, but the formal phrase is 'I have a question' — a common Indian-English usage.

Q3. Find the error: "He is my cousin brother."

Answer: brother

💡 'Cousin' alone means cousin brother/sister.
