Foundation beginner easy

A, an and the — the small words that signal nouns.

Foundation — The building blocks of English grammar.

Rules

1. "a" before consonant sounds: a book, a university (yu sound). 2. "an" before vowel sounds: an apple, an hour (silent h). 3. "the" for specific/known nouns: the sun, the book I told you about. 4. No article for general plurals/uncountables: I like music. 5. "the" with superlatives and unique things: the best, the moon. 6. No article with most proper nouns: I live in Delhi (but: the Himalayas, the Ganga).

Explanation

Choose a/an for one non-specific thing and "the" for a specific or already-known thing. The choice depends on sound, not spelling: an honest man (h is silent), a European country (eu sounds like "yoo").

हिंदी में

A/an का प्रयोग अनिश्चित और the का प्रयोग निश्चित संज्ञा के लिए होता है। चुनाव वर्तनी पर नहीं, उच्चारण पर निर्भर करता है।
